Cody Johnson has led country music since before his 2019 major label debut, “Ain’t Nothin’ To It.” After partnering his COJO Music with Warner Music Nashville, the married father of two from Texas rose to the top of country music.
On the heels of releasing his new album, Leather, Johnson shared what it was like to create an album without trying to please the record label and having a year and a half of freedom to create what he wanted.
“I’m at a point where I’m mature enough, and I’m far enough along in my career where I’m going to go eff it, for lack of a better term,” he said. “I’m going to put out what I want to put out. If it’s too country for somebody, then maybe they’ll come around once the pendulum swings. But I’m starting to see authenticity make a comeback in our genre,” says Johnson.
Johnson’s third major label studio album, “Leather,” will be released on November 3rd.
